Northern most deployment in the history of the Web

This December I actually made history, I performed the northern most deployment of a web 2.0 service when I deployed the latest version of Ezmo from the Norwegian island of Svalbard. With the company of polar bears and reindeer I deployed the most important new features in Ezmo’s short history. Ezmo has now become a more social and open service where users can interact and discover new music and users.

SvalbardWorking up in Svalbard is an amazing experience and the city of Longyear is a very calming place to work. The constant darkness and shifting weather this close to the north pole makes for a very calming and harmonic working environment. Your body slows down because of the lack of sunlight your body and mind slows down. There is no rush to get things done while the sun is up, so you end up maybe eating dinner at 01:00 and start baking a cake at 02:00. In addition to the harmonic surroundings the island of Svalbard has a fiber optic cable which comes from Tromsø in Norway. With the fiber optics comes a very fast Internet connection which makes working from the arctic very easy.

If you want a different kind of holiday I would recommend the island of Svalbard. With it’s arctic climate and the amazing city of Longyear it makes for a life changing experience. You can see polar bears walking around in the nortern lights and you will have an amazing experience which you can take with you for the rest of your life. Just have a look at the amazing pictures from Svalbard on Flickr and you will see that I am right.

hmm I didn’t take any pictures…. as I was busy WORKING! ;)
And you know… you get a pretty good impression of what it was like if you just sit in a room without windows and turn off the light :)
There’s no sunshine there during Christmas.
