There is a new service available for all of us who love movies. It’s called Scenami (which is Norwegian for “my scene”) and is a social way of rating movies and having a bit of a banter with your friends about what movie is actually the best one.
Scenami is a Flex application built on top of PHP developed by a former college of mine Shah Kashani. I think it looks pretty sweet and it is so much better to use than some of the other social movie sites out there like Rotten Tomatoes. Having a rich and fast user interface like you get when using Flex is such bliss and you never ever would want to go back to any solution built with HTML for this kind of interactive application. Sure for the WikiPedia’s of the web HTML is great, but for applications it’s just a something we should have evolved beyond a long time ago.
I think Shah has done a great job with using outside resources to enhance his application:
What would’ve been great is if the IMDB thing executed automatically instead of having to press the button. Having said that I like that you can just drag and drop the movies in order to rate them. It’s going to be very exciting to see how this service evolves, but I think it looks good and shows off Flex.
Go ahead and join Scenami!
